A UPS MD-11 cargo aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville International Airport in Kentucky, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.

The flight, bound for Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, impacted the ground south of the airfield during its takeoff attempt.

A passenger on a nearby flight captured the harrowing incident on video, showing the plane engulfed in flames as it struggled to gain altitude. Reports indicate the MD-11 reached a speed of 211 miles per hour but failed to lift off for unknown reasons.

Given that the aircraft was already on fire, the disaster could have been far worse if it had gained altitude and crashed into a populated residential area.

Just seconds after the crash, a couple near the airport perimeter recorded the massive fireball erupting into the sky, sending shockwaves through a terrified local community unaware of the unfolding tragedy.

The Louisville Metro Police Department, along with other emergency agencies, has responded to the incident.

In addition to identifying the injured and deceased, authorities implemented a shelter-in-place order for all residents within a five-mile radius of the airport, according to WDRB.The cause of the UPS MD-11 crash remains unknown at this time.

Tragically, at least three people are believed to have been killed, as stated by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday night.
