One of the bigger surprises of the 2025 NFL trade deadline (and there were many) included the New York Jets’ decision to keep star running back Breece Hall, but the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t go down without trying.
Breece Hall is having a career year and is in the final season of his rookie deal. But instead of dealing Hall, the Jets pulled off two other stunners by trading All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.
According to a report from Connor Hughes of SNY, the Chiefs offered a fourth-round pick to New York for the star running back. But the Jets wanted a third-round pick, a price the defending AFC champs wouldn’t pay:
“With Breece Hall, there was an offer on the table for a fourth-round pick for Breece Hall. I was told it was from the Kansas City Chiefs that were willing to trade for Breece Hall. The Jets were steadfast in wanting a third.”
As news of the Jets’ mammoth trades broke, Hall indicated in a cryptic X/Twitter post that he wanted out as well:
Breece Hall has rushed for 581 yards and two touchdowns over his first eight games, per Pro Football Reference. He’s averaging a career-high 72.6 rushing yards per game and is on pace to hit the 1,000-yard plateau for the first time in his career.

The obvious risk in keeping Hall is that New York could lose him for nothing in free agency next year. They will have the option to apply the franchise tag, but it’s rarely used on running backs in today’s NFL.
Hall could even request a trade in the offseason and force the Jets to trade him. They wouldn’t be dealing from a position of strength, and in that scenario, would be lucky to get more than a fourth-round pick.
The best-case scenario for the Jets is that he finishes the season strong and agrees to a long-term deal. Of course, nobody can blame Hall if he decides he doesn’t want to play in Gotham beyond 2025.
